Comic Images - Trading Cards

I cannot say that I have ever come into a position to trade cards... TSW themed or otherwise.  Although someone else was buying them from my local Comic Store, I never once saw them... or perhaps I just have an alter-ego I am unaware of.  In any case, let me speak of these cards.

They are the size of average trading cards in general dimensions, excepting thickness.  These are sturdy, sturdy cards.  You can not bend them easily, and I would think not without making a permanent (perhaps semi-permanent) fold in the card.  Personally, I think it's a good thing.

The edition is a run of seventy-nine cards in all.  They are divided into categories, seventy-two normal cards into a title card, eight character profile cards, and someodd numbers of story, technology and behind the scenes cards.  In addition, there are seven chase character cards that come randomly inserted into packs.

The title card lists, numerically, the cards in the plain run.

The second card is the first 'real' card - Aki's profile.  Following are the other profiles.  The odd narration on these cards leads me to believe that someone was paid to rewrite the official profiles using the brain of the Word Thesaurus.  While true enough to the originals, for the most part, it does make for some interesting reading.  The most prominent example may be on the back of Jane's card, where it lists Neil as her 'trusted buddy.'

Interpretations live, childish, or aside... it is amusing.

The technology cards are similar to the profiles, only profiling the technology.  It isn't complete, but then neither are most other sources.

The story cards attempt to retell the movie.  A decent enough job, even though they tried to alleviate most of the spoilers.  The odd narration continues, only freewritten this time around.

Brief, but enlightening to a point are the behind the scenes cards.  Explained in a paragraph are such things as texture mapping and motion capture.

The special cards are a holographic redux of the character profiles... minus an earlier card for the phantoms.  Numbered C1 through C7, they encompass Aki, Gray, Sid, Hein, Ryan, Neil, and Jane.  They are nice and shiny, but thinner and frailer than the rest of the set.

Acquiring these cards may take a few steps now, especially the foils.  I haven't seen them at collector's stores for a while now.... But, originally, they were sold in packs - each pack having seven cards (although I have gotten six or eight before... fluke).  Sometimes they are sold in boxes, either a twenty-something pack box or a thirty-six pack box.
