The Genius

Who He is....

 Sid is Aki's mentor.  He's a wise and modest old man with an optimistic sense of humor.  Throughout his life he studied and improved upon the theory that Earth is a living organism; the Gaia Theory.

 His secret, on the side research on the mysterious force of life fully came to light after the Phantoms arrived, and his devoted work marks the way to the salvation of the world.

 I like Sid quite a bit.  He's obviously an important person, but he's got that lovable grandfather attitude.  He seems like one who would get stuck in his ways, though... at least when he knows he's right.

 I'm not sure under what circumstances he and Aki met.  Whether she followed his reputation before meeting him, or she came around to his way of thinking after they worked together, or what....  They have a naturally caring father-daughter relationship that can be difficult to find under the same biological bonds.

 Sid discovered the first traces of bio-etheric energy.  He discovered the stronger energy in Phantoms.  And he developed the ovo-pacs; and things that ran off the energy in ovo-pacs.  And the Barrier Cities... probably not all by himself, but it was his work that safeguarded the human race from full destruction.

 I think it's safe to say he saved the world single-handedly.  ... Well, maybe with a little help from the less arthritic people.  Maybe.
