Jane
Who she is...
Jane is a hot blooded soldier with a quiet disposition. She's also Gray's expert of the fine art of blowing things to pieces.Conceptions...
Jane seems to be the darkest of the (Gray's) Deep Eyes squad. Ryan and Neil appear upbeat; and Gray seems melancholy but it's not quite the same....A Question of Gender...She's often protective... maybe overprotective. Perhaps she sees it as her duty to keep her friends safe at any cost.
She looks at people when they talk. In many cultures, this is a sign of respect towards the speaker. In Japan, it was (supposedly) part of honorific code among Samurai. Some of her other traits seem rather Japanese as well.
She also seems like a troublemaker, but that's probably just me.
There is a character in older Japanese samurai movies. A tough woman, usually to be identified by smoking, drinking, or indulging in other masculine habits rather than staying in the traditional female role. From what I've seen, she is seeking something, usually power, though this is not always the case; and often she comes to terms with her feminism, or to a bad end.Sound familiar? So maybe Jane wasn't created because today's cinema can't stand to have a movie without stereotyped strong women, but was supposed to fill this older Japanese role.
